FOR LIVING Breaking up your old pieces of furniture into smaller
more useful pieces is an easy way to get more bang for your buck with
thrift shop purchases and attic finds. We disassembled a highboy and
now its a low sideboard (the bottom half after removing the top simply
had a lovely piece of marble put on it and was ready to go), a standing
bar (the upper half after being fitted out with mirror tiles in the
back, a "U" shaped shelf in the middle, a few coats of bright blue
paint on the other interior surfaces and futuristic aluminum legs)
and under bed storage (the drawers from the upper half with casters
attached to the bottoms). The whole operation cost less then $100!
Even the matching end tables when one had the legs removed became
smart modular units. Try breaking up furniture to use as built in
elements, free standing furniture or parts of other pieces of furniture.
Use your imagination and a fresh eye and you can create useful new
pieces out of old white elephants!
