DESIGN FOR LIVING

Winter afternoons just make me feel like snuggling into a warm den. This one is a cozy ski lodge complete with a flokati rug, a big comfortable chair, and a completely impractical fireplace. The art department on the show created a beautiful fireplace out of plastic bins from the hardware store. The sterno pots under the ceramic logs couldn't be lit because the plastic bins would have melted. It did look lovely though! The sterno pots are perfect if you want a fireplace but don't have a chimney. They don't need to be vented so you can build a charming fireplace to display them in without worrying about smoking up your home. We got ours from Sunjel. The warm wood walls and floor and red plaid and white color scheme are very welcoming, and the use of skis and ski boots is a lesson in using objects like sports equipment in a room to set a mood.
