A hippie squat should be a perfect pad for lounging. After all the protests and peace marches what you need is a place to relax. Ours was mellowed out with rugs, piles upon piles of them. The effect is not unlike a Turkish souk and when you use rugs for furniture you can endlessly rearrange them to create a wide variety of seating and surfaces. We piled them up to create a sofa, hung them on the wall and laid them haphazardly around the floor, 3 deep. It makes for a very soft richly textured environment. The rugs we used came from Home Decorators Collection. In addition to our rugs, we also massed some beautiful amber hanging lamps in one corner and accessorized with tassels, textiles and trinkets that are all about hippie chic. World culture, handicrafts and sixties symbolism all combined to add a trippy spin to this counterculture room.
