Make Yourself At Home The food in your average college dining hall is usually less then inspiring. Here are a few additions to make it a little more palatable: Start by buying some small container with airtight lids and a cute bag or box to carry them in. Then pick up: -Kosher salt - the larger crystals dissolve slowly and add more flavor then plain table salt -A pepper mill - nothing beats freshly ground pepper on almost any savory dish. -Hot sauce - to disguise a less then desirable flavor -Garlic powder - a good basic for bland fare -Toasted crushed nuts - we featured pistachios, perfect for a seasoned crust on fish or foul -Curry powder - for taking a stew from anemic to old India in a trice -Olive oil - to add sophistication to any oil and vinegar dressing For dessert try adding small tubes of frosting, sprinkles and sparkly colored sugars. Fill your containers with the add-ons and pack them up for your next trip to the caf. Bringing along the goods to spike your food to the next level is a smart way to eat well on campus. Try it and you'll be surprised at how many new friends you'll make!
