OUT AND ABOUT

We visited the theater where Monday Night Magic was a fixture. I met the Great Throwdini and in a rather hair raising incident, let him throw knives (real, sharp, heavy knives) at me. That was how we introduced the show. I also met John Graham who demonstrated slight of hand with a ring, a newspaper and a paper hat. What I learned from his performance was that you can hide all sorts of things by distracting attention from them.

HELP ME BRINI!

An example of what not to attract attention to is a new hairpiece. It's hard to know what to say when a gentleman goes from shiny to shaggy over night. That sort of 180-degree change should be politely acknowledged, rather then ignored. Comment, not on the hairpiece itself, but on the improvement in his general overall appearance, even if you might prefer him without it. Tact and diplomacy are wonderful tools in maintaining easy and positive relationships.

RANDOM THOUGHTS

The wardrobe for this episode was chosen to be reminiscent of the patterns they painted on ships in WW2. They called them dazzle paints, and the idea was that if ships were painted in large, bold patterns, they would visually break up on the horizon and be more difficult targets. I don't think the Navy continued the program after the war, however. I haven't seen any Pucci print battleships around lately.
