For many people the bathroom is the most important room in the house. It's the room where we become beautiful and the room where we relax, the room where we begin our day and the room where we end it. Therefore it deserves the same attention we give the rest of the house. Here are a few ideas for making your bathroom worthy of a stop on the house tour.
Out And About: When it comes to bathrooms there are few that compare to the one in Liberace's mansion, Las Vegas Villa in Las Vegas, Nevada. The home has been turned into an event space, but the bathroom is still much as it was when Liberace lived there. It's a remarkable room with an oval shaped faux marble tub with pillars and an enormous chandelier. Gazing down upon his guests, Liberace's image, painted on the ceiling seems to be welcoming you to his salle de bain. I had the honor of being shown the beautiful bathroom and the rest of the home by Liberace tribute artist, Will Collins. He told me that when the tub was installed in the 1960's it cost over $50,000.00. That's quite a bit of tub for one man. The room which also has a fountain, has hosted weddings and other social events, as well as numerous photo shoots. If you're looking for an interesting place to host an event, why not think quirky and have a gander at the "Tub Room". Help Me Brini What do you do about the "seat up, seat down" issue? Perhaps both of you should lower both the seat and the lid, that may feel like more equal distribution of labor. Bathroom etiquette is a very touchy subject. It's such a private realm that sharing it with another is bound to cause issues. A little diplomacy will go a long way in making for a harmonious partnership. Random Thoughts The Tidy Bowl Man was played by our editor, Michael Demirjian. His contributions to the show are too numerous to count. There was a bit cut out of that moment with him being attacked by a giant pecan made from brown pashminas, string and garbage bags. We decided it was just a bit too over the top and took it out. The scene was all his doing and its absurdity captured his sense of humor to a T. Thanks Michael! The day of shooting at Liberace's house in Las Vegas was lots of fun. The place is quite remarkable - full of items, both beautiful and outrageous. You can still feel his presence there. Will Collins was a very sweet man and very talented at recreating the aura of Liberace. |
