Ben Sander
Brini wouldn’t be possible without Ben. He’s a multidisciplinary artist and historian whose interest in period culture began at an early age. Ben has a degree in fashion design from FIT and has worked as an interior designer, film history professor and is currently working on art for a future exhibition.
He developed the character of Brini in tandem with the concept for the television show. Brini is an amalgam of Ben’s love for mid-century female icons like Doris Day and Mary Tyler Moore, and his mother, who was an actress and homemaker.
Another early influence were his paternal grandparents. They lived in a dramatic home designed for entertaining with a bi-level living room, vaulted ceilings and a terra cotta patio with a kidney shaped pool and redwood cabanas.
Those early influences led him to idolize mid-century design and entertaining through the lens of Hollywood and Madison Avenue.
Ben has recently stepped out from behind the curtain and now has a place in the content he produces alongside Brini. Look for him in the feed going forward!
“I think there are things that we’ve left behind, and those things have to do with confidence and individuality,” Sander says. “What fascinates me about mid-century design was that it was a time when we were optimistic about the future.”
